(a) There was a fifth model: the Turbo GT. Standard on the GT (m) (optional on the GL & GLX), these great seats were fully reclining and provided excellent lateral support. Interior treatments remained largely unchanged save for the addition of comfortable Sport Performance seats.
#1983 FIREBIRD VIN NUMBER DECODING MANUAL#
Manual quarter windows were available with power windows only in the 1983 convertible option. Other options included the TRX package, air conditioning, speed control, console (j), AM/FM stereo radio with cassette, black outside mirrors (k), power windows, tinted glass (l), tilt knob, leather top boot, leather shift knob and a finished trunk. GT convertibles were fitted with the 5.0 liter V-8, a T-5 Borg-Warner transmission (h) and 3.27:1 (i) Traction-Lok rear-end. Of these, 8 were protoypes, 977 were for sale in U.S, and 16 went to Canada (g). 1,001 GT convertibles were built (f) beginning and finishing off at the end of the model year, in August.

Originally, most convertibles were GLX models equipped with the either the 5.0 liter V-8 or the 3.8 liter V-6. Dearborn Assembly Line workers reported that the temporary fiberglass covers installed in place of the glass (e) would sometimes blow off during transport and become a common site along the freeway. The steel roof was then removed (d) ,floor pan reinforced, and the convertible top installed. Each convertible left the assembly line as a 2-door notchback (b) and was shipped to Cars & Concepts minus glass (c) and headliner. The top of the line model was the GT and was available as a hatchback or a convertible.Īlthough considered a factory convertible, an outside customizing company, Cars & Concepts in Brighton, Michigan, handled the conversion at their facility. There were four (a) Mustang models to choose from - the base L model in a two-door notchback and a three-door hatchback the GL - as a two-door or a three-door hatchback and the GLX model, as a two or three door and new for 1983, a convertible. There seems to be an error in about every other paragraph, and some stuff is even contradictory to the same thing printed later in the section. I read only the 1983 section last night and I couldn't believe how much that book got wrong. If you really want me to correct the FBMRG, I am prepared to do so. So you see, I'm going to base my posts on those kinds of reliable sources, instead of Wikipedia or a book or a random Website. Marti produces his reports using Ford's production database. Regarding total production of 1983 GT convertible being 993 and not 1001, that has been proven out more than once by a Marti report. I did just that to the Ford Mustang (third generation) 1983-1986 section. Anybody can post and revise anything they want there. Otherwise I will say that what I am posting has not been verified and should not be taken as fact. When I post production data it is backed up by at least one reliable source, as in factory tags (door tags, buck tags, build sheets, window stickers, etc.) or Marti reports. If we don't know a production number as fact we don't say it is fact, or if we do post a number not knowing if it is actually correct we along with it something like "this number has not been verified". We don't just post stuff here and claim that it is fact unless otherwise proven. Um, sorry, but that's not the way we do things around here.
